Tina,
You have it basically right. I was born just across the state line in SC but our family farm was in Scotland Co and I still have lots of family there. All decended from the original 3 brothers who landed in Wilmington and made their way to Scotland Co. One, I think, moved on to Miss. where there are still lots of McLaurins. Laurinburg is named after the McLaurins as you probably expected. The current mayor of Rockingham, NC is Gene McLaurin, my 2nd cousin.
