Hello again Jim, I'm sorry it took a while to respond fully. I am very interested in the stories of your McLaughlin's.I have had no time since the end of last week to find out more about your McL. family, until today. Interestingly enough, not many "Hugh" deaths occurred before Ellen in Dec of 1881 The one interesting one and it has a good lead to it is a Hugh who died 1874( vol. 267 p 33) at the age of 69 He was a tailor and was originated from "Rainford" ?? Ireland . He died of "Aethema".An 1879 n/a vol 285 p. 228 and 1976 vol 312 p.292 are not able to be viewed. If you have a Boston Globe Archives subscription you could view the obits around these dates. I don't yet. I did find Ellen's death "brights disease " was the cause 70 years old 129 Cross St. father Neil, born Ireland. The research about origin can be so difficult, unless you already know it. The whole Scottish thing rings true with alot of us. First of all,try to do alittle research about the McLaughlin's and you will find many commuted on a yearly basis to work in Glasgow or the like because Ireland offered us nothing. The book, "last of the name" by Charles McGlinchey is a rambling sort of book narrated by an old man who is "the last of the name "that talks about life and the area of Donegal around Clonmany and Inishowen in general. I purchased mine on amazon for a few bucks. It helps you understand that era and the people. Look at the familysearch.org births in Scotland and you will see so many McL.names. because of the large McLaughlin of Tirconnell septs. I'll let you know if I find more info.
