Hello,
Just saw your post today and went to my local library in MA. because they subscribe to nehgs.org and there you can view bmd info up until 1910.
On Nov. 12, 1872 William A McLaughlin of Boston married Mary Kelly of Southboro. Both were 33 years of age. Both 1st marriage. He was born in Boston , she Ireland. His parents Hugh and Ellen no maiden, hers James and Catherine no maiden. Married by M. Moran . It is in vol 246 p. 185 if you ever get a chance to see the microfilm.
That is all the info it contains from back then. There are no certificates, just one line for each person filled out on a marriage log. I hope it helps. The Archdiocese of Boston has the original records from the churches that may tell you more info, but they are being moved and won't reopen until fall 2008 or so. I was there just yesterday, and the records the priests kept then were no better. I was trying to find more details like you, and came away disappointed. Sometimes you do get lucky though.
