Daniel McLard-McLarty-McLardie in 1700's

Hello-
I am looking for any info on the McLardie/McLarty's during the 1700's in Scotland or even Ireland.

I'm one of almost 20,000 McClard decendents in the U.S. who can trace their roots back to one man, Daniel McLard. He emigrated to the colonies from most likely Scotland in the 1700's. He died in 1774 in Prince Edward County, VA. The problem is we have no info on him prior to his emigration. I found a Daniel McClarty born in 1715 in Glasgow to Duncan McClarty/McLardie and Anne Smith, but I haven't found any evidence to positively link this Daniel with mine. I believe Daniel McLard shortened his name from McLardie or McLarty since the name McLard/McClard is almost non-existent in European records then or now.

Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.
