Here is the problem.. I am trying to locate my maternal grandmother's father's side of the family.. The earliest record that I can find is on Mahlon McLane, born in Mason County, Virginia in 1822. The only name on his birth certificate is James McLane, no mother listed. Mahlon supposedly had a son, Isom/Isham McLane/McClain/McLain, who married Birdie Stalnaker in Randolph County, West Virginia. I have all info on Birdie, my great-aunt Alice remembers her as a child, and my mom's older sister remembers when she died. Isom/Isham's mother was supposedly Sarah Kelley/Kelly, daughter of William Kelley/Kelly and Elizabeth Milam. I have some info as to the 1870 Putnam County, West Virginia census records on Malon McLaine, listed with a Tabitha, Elizabeth, Elijah and Zachariah. I have Sarah Kelley/Kelly listed in the 1850 and 1870 Putnam County, of Virginia and West Virginia in 1850 and 1870. My great grandfather Roy Hansford McLane, the son of Isom/Isham and Birdie married Odessa Marie Holmes, have plenty of info on Holmes as the majority of families still live in Sissonville area.. However, I cannot find Roy in any census records at all.. I know where he and Odessa rest, so I know the name is right as he is also listed on my grandmother and her siblings birth certificates.. Roy supposedly had a brother named Austin/Ostin, found him in the Putnam County records as well... If anyone has any info that may be helpful, please respond. Thanks in advance.
