Mclane/Mcclain in PA in late 1700's

I am researching the McLane/McClain family in Westmoreland County, PA and surrounding areas (Scottdale, Rostraver, Donegal). I found on the 1850 census where the name changed from McLane to McClain for what ever reason.

I can not get further back than David McLane born abt 1806 in PA, maybe Westmoreland Co. His son Francis (born 1839 in Westmoreland) is the line I have been researching.

Does anyone know when these McLanes came from Eastern PA or better yet, from Ireland/Scotland?

Thanks
Mary
