From the Fairmont Times in Marion County, West Virginia, published Saturday, March 31, 1951:

John W. McKown Dies Suddenly

John William McKown, Sr., 81, died suddenly yesterday afternoon in the Morgantown Avenue Recreation hall. Mr. McKown made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. McKown, 118 Terrace Manor.

He was born October 28, 1869, in Rochester, Pa. His wife, Emma Byer McKown, is deceased. Prior to his retirement, Mr. McKown was a glass worker at the Twelfth street plant. He was a member of the American Flint Glass Workers, and had been a resident of Fairmont for 47 years.

Survivors include three children, Edward V. McKown, Fairmont; Mrs. E.D. [Elam Dowden] Gall, Morgantown, and John W. McKown, Carnegie, Pa. There are two grandchildren Mrs. Glenn [Mary Martha]Thorn and Robert Ball [s/b Gall], both of Morgantown, and two great grandchildren.

The body will be removed from the Jones Funeral home and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward V. McKown at 11:30 o’clock this morning. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon in the McKown residence, with the Rev. Harold Hann officiating. Burial will be made in the East Oak Grove cemetery in Morgantown.
