Lynda, I read a number of messages you wrote in March and in one you mentioned three brothers from Ireland named John, Moses and Francis. Those names sound like the Augusta County VA McCowns. We don't know the names of our three brothers. My GGGF was Lawrence McCown, born in 1792 in SC. He was married to Sally McCrea in Washington Co., VA in 1815. His sons, William and Ely were born in Washington Co., VA in 1815 and 1818 respectively. The families lived in Butler and Logan Counties in KY until my grandfather moved to Texas in the 1890's. That, together with my original message is about all we know of our McCown line. There were a number of McQuown marriages in Washington Co., VA and our Lawrence was shown with that spelling although that is the only occurance to our knowlege that the McQuown spelling was used in reference to our family. A Presbyterian minister at the Sinking Springs church performed a number of McQuown weddings about 1815 and think that he recorded them all with that spelling because they were pronounced the same and the parties involved didn't argue the spelling.
