McKown Family Origins

Our family tradition is that three brothers came to the colonies from Glasgow where they worked in the shipyards. They settled in Virginia. Two brothers used the McCown spelling and one used McKown. The McKown brother moved to Indiana. I met a fellow student at Glendale (CA) City College in 1949 whose family of McKowns was from Indiana and he had a similar story. In the record of rebel Scottish Prisoners deported to the colonies, William McCown (to Maryland) and Catherine McKown (to North Carolina) were aboard the same ship. Also in our story our progenitor was a highlander which could work with either Macdougall or MacEwen. From what I have read McCowan is associated with Colquhoun, MacCowan is associated with Macdougall and McKeon, McKeown and McKeun are associated with MacEwen. Can any McKown race their family origin back to Colquhoun, Macdougall or MacEwen?
