KIND FATHER CALLED TO REST
JAMES MCKONE, SR. DIED NOV. 19 AND BURIED NOV 21ST (191

LOVED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM

“The deceased, James McKone, was born in County Dairy, Ireland Feb. 12, 1840, and died at his home in Lawler, Iowa, Nov.19, 1912. At th age of seven years he was, by death, deprived of a mother’s love and tender care. He was taken to America by friends, settling in New York, where he worked for his board and schooling until 12 years of age. When Nineteen years old he took up blacksmithing as a trade and followed this practically all his life. He came to Jacksonville, this county, in 1860 and bought a shop. When Lawler was started as a town, he moved there retiring from business in 1900.

On January 9, 1870 he was married to Miss Elizabeth McCarten to which union nine children were born: Dr. John, Charles, Regina, Susie, Anna Mae, James and Carl and Mrs. A.J. Shea of Dubuque and Mrs. Wm Solon of Sanborn Iowa. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and children, relatives and many friends. To all of these, sincere sympathy is extended.

James McKone, Sr., was a splendid man, a good citizen, a kind and loving husband and father.

He came here in an early day and he and his good wife labored long and hard for the success they have attained. A finer family was never born or raised to any man and none take a greater interest in their children and the happiness and success of their home.

The funeral was held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock at our Lady of Mt. Carmel church at Lawler, Rev Father Ryan singing the Requiem High Mass, assisted by Rev. Father Craney as Deacon and Rev Father Hogan and Sub-Deacon. Father Hogan preached the funeral sermon. Burial took place in the parish cemetery beside the church”
