Hello again, Pat. I received your message today. This evening I dug into my McKone files and pulled out this info, which may be of use to you. It is from a collection of genealogical info on the Ontario,Canada McKone family by a "Patsy Switzer, R.R.3, St. Mary's, Ont., Canada, N4X 1C6", who sent it to my Uncle Ken Bilyea (now deceased). Kenneth was my father's youngest brother. Uncle Ken lived on and worked the Bilyea family farm until his death. His mother, and my father's mother, was Matilda Jane (Jennie) McKone, b. 1-27-1872 in 8th Conc., Zorra Twp., Oxford County, Ontario, Canada. Jennie was married to my paternal grandfather, Frederick William Bilyea, b 2-12-1868, d. 1949 at home on the Bilyea farm.

Here is the info on the McKone who came to Ontario, Canada from Ireland:

William McKone, b 1817 in County Tyrone, Ireland. No. of children: 9. Died 1-7-1879, buried in Zion Cemetery, Seveth Line (i.e. near Thorndale, Ontario). His wife was Matilda Mahon. They had nine children. (Will list them, if you are interested.) Their last child was William McKone, b1840. No.of children:4. Died 1912. His wife was Almira Nelson, b. 1846, d. 11.6.1923. The first child of this marriage was my grandmother, Matilda Jane(Jennie) McKone, see info above. No. of children:6. died 2-10-1958; buried in Woodland Cemetery, London, Ontario, Canada. Her husband was Frederick William Bilyea, b.2.12.1868, m. 2-12-1896 at the home of the bride's parents in London, Ontario, Canada. My father, also a Frederick William Bilyea, was their first-born.

It was told to me that the McKone family immigrated to Canada from Antrim, Ireland. (Perhaps this is true, and William McKone was born in, but then moved from, County Tyrone, Ireland.)

The area north of London, Ontario, was settled by a great number of immigrants, many of them from Ireland. Lucan is known for its Irish settlers, for example.

Hope this helps you with your McKone family, and that you may be able to shed some light on my McKone family. --from Mary Bilyea Steele
