This is what my grand-uncle Austin Wheeler Smith had to say about Margaret Barry Henderson in his book "The Dickson-McEwen and Allied Families Genealogy": "She was the third child of Colonel James Henderson. For many years she kept the rifle which belonged to her father and which he had in his hands when he was killed, but in going from Texas to Arkansas in 1868 on horseback she had to leave it behind. She died in Arkansas. After the death of her husband in 1840, she moved with her children and some of the Dicksons to Cross Hollow, Benton County, Arkansas, but after a few years she went with some of her relatives to Titus County, Texas." My own research took me to the 1850 Titus County, Texas, census. She is listed there as "Mrs. D.," with John B. "Dixon" and A.C. McKisick, who is probably Aurelia Caledonia McKisick, the daughter of Margaret Barry Henderson McKisick Dickson. Austin Wheeler Smith simply said of John Bennett Dickson that he married Mrs. McKissick, his cousin. Margaret Barry Henderson would have been John B. Dickson's first cousin. Her mother and his father were sister and brother, both children of General Joseph Dickson. The 1850 Titus County census reads: John B. Dixon 56 M NC Mrs. D. 48 F NC A.C. McKisick 21 F Tenn William McKisick 13 M Tenn John Dixon 17 M Ark Albert Dixon 9 M Ark Powel Dixon 7 M Ark The marriage records of Margaret can be found in Rutherford County, Tennessee: Henderson, Margaret B married Mckissick, Daniel on 05 Mar 1822 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Dickson, John D. and Margaret McKissick Aug 28, 1845 Rutherford County, Tennessee. Notify Administrator about this message?
