There were plenty of black/mulato McKissicks in SC/NC. If you'll go to the census records that begin showing whether a person is black or white, you'll see. I don't know that any of my ancestors had mulato children; I wasn't there, but I do know that many slaves took the name of their owners after they were freed. So that could account for black McKissicks as well. I'm not certain that my McKissick ancestors held slaves. I don't think they did. They were fairly impoverished.
