McKissick family of Pennsylvania

I was hoping that someone might have information about the Harrisburg, Pa. McKissick family. My mothers' maiden name was Dawn Dolores McKissick, my fathers', Theodore Wagner, Jr.
For many years I believed that I was of Irish decent but through recent research I have discovered that the surname McKissick is actually of Scottish origin.
I am extremely confused at this point, my maternal grandfathers' nickname was "Irish". I would hope that someone might be able to shed some light on this very troubling situation.
I have a very dear friend that is Irish, he told me that my ancestors may have imigrated from Scotland to Ireland but that the surname McKissick is not Irish at all. I was quite very surprised to learn this.
Please, if anyone has information that would help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Respectfully,
Michael P. Wagner
