Jim,
Thank you for contacting me. I'm afraid my information doesn't quite match what you've posted. Mine was received from another person's research, not my own...so I don't know how accurate it is. There seems to be an abundance of James and Alexander McKinstrys!
My connection to the McKinstry line is through Rebecca McKinstry Bratton, wife of George Bratton, Jr. b.1757 Mifflin Co, PA.
Rebecca was born about 1765 in Cumberland Co. and was the daughter of James McKinstry (birth date seen anywhere from 1722-1733) and Sarah Huston (b.1732)...Sarah Huston was the daughter of Christopher Huston and Susan Wilson. I have read a portion of James McKinstry's will in which he names his wife as Sarah and mentions his living children...Rebecca (and husband George Bratton) included.
I have that James' father was Alexander McKinstry b. 1708 and his mother was Mary Samuels b. 1712. They were married 1731 in PA. James had a brother, Alexander b. 1738, I don't have info on him other than he and brother James were taxed in E. Pennsboro Twp, Cumberland Co, PA. (I think on your chart, you have this Alexander as married to Mary Samuels b.1712? Given the age difference it would seem that Mary was married to the father Alexander b. 1708...not the son b. 1738? What do you think?)
Naturally, my James had sons named James b. 1776 and Alexander b. 1770 also mentioned in the will...which makes this all very confusing.
I have that James' grandfather was also named Alexander McKinstry, but have no further info on him.
As to the Brattons:
I have George Bratton Jr b. 1757 in Mifflin Co, PA as son of George Bratton b.1720 Wayne Twp, Mifflin Co, PA and Jane Elliot. I further descend through George Bratton Jr. and Rebecca McKinstry Bratton's daughter Sarah Bratton b. 1782. Sarah Bratton and her husband David Powell brought their family to Dearborn Co, Indiana. Several generations later...I am living in Indiana.
I don't know that we can help each other, but I'm glad you contacted me...it's always fun to compare notes and try to figure out "the puzzle".
Judy
