Bruce - Welcome To The Disease Of Genealogy!!!

FOR THE RECORD:

#1. It is not me - that is showing the 1752 birth date for our George McKENSEY of SC and Ohio is incorrect - it is his Census Records.

#2. LINEAGE SOCIETIES do not look kindly upon just one Census Record and prefer 3 in a row - this we are very fortunate to have for George.

One of the very first things one does in genealogy is to do the Census Records and when one does the math - the outcome for George McKINSEY, Father of Abigail McKINSEY b 7th June 1788, shows him to have been b ca 1760-1770.

pg 5 of Ms MUNDELL's book states:

"Henrietta McKINSEY gave the year 1762" as the date of birth for George McKINSEY.

NOTE: The Census Records for the Gentleman "Prove Beyond A Reasonable Doubt" he was b ca 1760-1770 easily "Proving" the 1762 date given by Henrietta, fits into the mathematical result.

#3. The English Designation of 21 years - as being of age - was accepted on this side of the pond during Colonial Days.
This does indeed mean - George McKINSEY b ca 1760-1770 - would not have been of age in 1773 and therefor not able to buy property in that year.

BUT - a George McKENSEY did just that in 1773 - Paying Cash - 250 Pounds.

THEN THERE IS THIS:

Newberry Co., SC Deed Book D2, pgs 12-17

1779 January 21/22 - Wm HILBURN and wife Jane of Ninety-Six District to George McKINNEY, of same, for Pound 200 South Carolina money, 100 acres on water of Bush River adj., Mathias ELMORE and Thomas SHAW, granted Sept. 3, 1774 to William HILBURN.
Witnesses:
William HILBURN
John ELLEMON
Abner ALLEMON

Proved in Newberry Co., by the statement of John ELLEMAN, May 30, 1797

Recorded: 16 June 1797

Here again:

George McKENSEY, b 1760-1770, would not have been been of age in 1779 - ie., Age 21 - as:

"Proven Beyond A Reasonable Doubt" by Census Records.

NOTE; Sometime back, Lineage Societies and Professional Genealogists accepted the Legal Term:

....................... "The Preponderance of the Evidence"

but they now use:

........................"Proof Beyond A Reasonable Doubt"

for the acceptance of Genealogical Lineages.

#4. NO - I am not suggesting:

"William McKENZIE - the Jacobite transported to South Carolina in 1716 - was the Grandfather of George McKENSEY."

CONCLUSION:

Right now - In The Genealogical Research Presented - One Has:

"George McKENSEY {Of Age} a resident of Craven County and Province of South Carolina on the 8th January 1773".

Source: Newberry Co., SC Deed Book D-2, pgs 7/11.

This George McKENSEY would have had to have been b 8th January 1752 or before.

Yours Aye,

Lois
