I just received something from a cousin regarding a George Washinton McKinsey who was in the Civil War. Was that your GWM? He would have been awfully young but I guess many youngsters fought. My line has a George Washington (McKenzie) who was born about 1840 as best we can figure but his father was Samuel McKenzie who was born in Scotland in 1799. We don't know when he came over from Scotland but know he was in SC and married a Catherine (unknown). There are 3 Samuel McKenzie men in SC about the same time and SC records are not the best so we're having a rough time of it. I'm hoping by tracking down the Civil War GWM (and if he links to my line) we can find out more about Samuel. We do know they settled in Floyd Co GA and Samuel was last seen on the 1870 census there with wife Catherine, daughters Emily and Anna, sons Henry (my ancestor)and Wm. The two older sons, GWM and Frances Marion McKenzie, were already out of the home.
In your research have you come across many George Washington Mckenzie/Mckinsey men of that time period?
