LUCAS LEDGER ITEMS:
JOHN RICKEY and wife, east of Lucas, have a new baby boy, born last Tuesday.
ROY WOODS of Aurora, Neb., came Tuesday to visit relatives in Union Township
WILLIAM FLEANOR, of Galesburg, Ill., is visiting his brother, HARRISON
FLEANOR southwest of Lucas.
MRS. JOHN LUKE, SR., of Cleveland, who had her left eye injured about one
year ago by having a piece of coal strike it, left today for Council Bluffs,
to receive treatment for a couple of weeks.
MARTIN PERKINS and sister, MRS. MARIA NICKELL of Naugatuck, Conn., came last
week to visit their brother, W.B. PERKINS north of Lucas.
The infant daughter of RICHARD CORUM and wife, died Tuesday after several
weeks' illness. Rev. W.B. Pond conducted the funeral services at the home
yesterday and the remains were buried in Fry Hill Cemetery.
C.F. KREBS and family left the first of the week for Grand Island, Neb.,
where CHARLEY will go into the optician business. He is an excellent
business man and his Lucas friends wish him success in his new field of
labor.
ELMER DAVIS and wife, of Otter Creek Township had more than their share of
trouble last week. Their infant daughter died Thursday and was buried on
Friday. Two days later their house caught on fire but fortunately MR. DAVIS
happened to be out in the yard and noticed it. He gave the alarm over the
telephone and soon had enough help to get the fire put out, but not until it
had damaged the house considerably.
FRED STOVER, who had been night agent at Cleveland the past seven months,
has accepted a position at Melrose as night agent and commenced work last
Saturday. FRED is a competent young man and the company has always spoken
in praise of his work.
MISS MAGGIE MCKINZEY of Cleveland, 14 years of age, is taking a teacher's
course in the Ottumwa High School. This little lady has earned the money to
pay her schooling by her own labor, and so much ambition surely indicates a
bright future for her.
MISS CATHERINE PHILLIPS, who has been very ill the past five months at the
home of her sister, MRS. D.O. CAMPBELL, died this (Friday) morning. Funeral
services will be held at the home of D.O. CAMPBELL next Sunday at 12 p.m.
and the remains will be interred in the family burial grounds at Fry Hill
Cemetery. An obituary notice will be published next week.
