Mc or Mac?

I have some old documents about the family some of them spelt Mackinnon other are McKinnon. Is there a different in them? Or is it just poor spelling. I know people who last names are MacKinnon and I know more McKinnon than I do MacKinnon. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Are we the same family line or another clan all together?
