I'm posting these as a possible help to McKinnie Researchers
Sources: 965.61 R2la N.C "Old Albamarle & it's Absentee Landlords," by Worth
S. Ray: 14 Dec 1635, William Hunt in taking out a patent to 800 acres of land on the Western Branch of the Nansemond River, claimed to have transported into the colony of Virginia at some time prior to that date, several persons including Phillip, Evan, and Sarah Thomas, and one Michael McKinnie.

!Sarah Thomas may have been the wife of Phillip and a sister to Michael
McKinnie. This Michael McKinnie & his wife Elizabeth were the ancestors of a
long line of descendants. Many of the Thomases were related to them.
Elizabeth, the wife of Michael McKinnie, who after his death in 1686, married
Thomas Reeves, was perhaps Elizabeth Daniel, possibly a sister of John Daniel, who died in Isle of Wight County leaving in 1679, with Richard Reynolds and Phillip Thomas as the witnesses.

!The will of Michael Mckinnie in 1686 was witnessed by John Moore, Jeremiah Exum and Mary Daniel. When Elizabeth Reeves died in Brunswick Co., Virginia abt 1730 her estate was administered by Roger Daniel and John Daniel

!Will abstract of Michael MacQuinay: of Western branch, Planter. Leg. Wife
Elizabeth; youngest son Barnaby; eldest son John. Wife Executrix. Died 15 Apr 1686. Recorded 9 Aug 1686. Witnesses: Robert Cooper, Mary Daniel, Jeremiah Exum, & John Moore.

!Deposition of Thomas Reeves, made 9 Dec 1701, fifteen years after the death of Michael McKinnie:"He declares that he is aged 52 years, that Michael McKinnie was posessed of land and by his will gave the main plantation in Isle of Wight to his youngest son Barnaby. After his death the land was found to escheat, and holding the land in his (Thomas Reeves) custody by right of posession of his wife Elizabeth, which her aforesaid husband Michael McKinnie gave for her life time; but there was an agreement with John McKinnie that he should enter an escheat upon his brother's (Barnaby McKinnie's) land, in behalf of his brother Barnaby, because Barnaby was not then of age. Elizabeth Reeves, aged 60, testified to the same. Barnaby McKinnie and wife Mary, (Mary Exum who md 1st Jacob Ricks and when he died she md Barnaby McKinnie by JH) on account of the decease of his brother, John, now sells the land to Richard Exum." Wit: James , & John
Council.

!John McKinnie, the older brother of Barnaby married, but the name of wife is
unknown. From this marriage, however, came one son, Michael McKinnie, who
married Rose and on 10 Apr 1710, after he became of age, he and his wife
executed the following deed: Richard Exum, of Nansemond County, deed from Michael McKinnie and Rose, his wife, of Isle of Wight Co, 200 acres on the western branch of Nansemond in the co., of Isle of wight, being the land and plantation of which the grantor's grandfather Michael McKinnie lived, part of an escheated patent for 450 acres granted on 20 Apr 1692 to John McKinnie, father of said Michael McKinnie, part of this instrument. Witnesses: William Crumpler & William Scott.

The land was divided other ways. See Source Notes for Jeremiah Exum and wife
