I have James McKinney born 1774 in Culpeper, Virginia (documented by his son from Goodspeeds in the 1880's). I have had a researcher in Culpeper trace the ancestry of the McKinney's in Culpeper County Virginia and Orange County Virginia.
I have Rowland McKinney in the Revolution from Caroline County-Know one knows where he came from! He ends up in Roane County TN. with James McKinney and a whole bunch of 'the McKinney's' by 1800 and then they went on to Giles County TN/Limestone AL (All this was the Mississippi Territory)by 1806.
I was very curious to see your post that Lewis McKinnie's father was born on ship. Would you have a theory as to his name by the names that run in your family? I have been tracing the McKinney's of your area of interest and their ancestry is a mystery.
I have com up with names such as Rowland, Rolin, Augustus, Ethelwinn, Elliot, Elisha, Robert, Thomas, Alexander, John, William, James and the list goes on. In fact, Robert McKinney who died at the Alamo has on his tombstone-Ireland, Robert was in Giles with Davey Crockett and one of James McKinney's grandsons is named Crockett.
I think you're on to something as to when and where they came over. Please e-mail me direct if you have the time to compare notes on botn of our families.

Thank you.
