James Tobe McKinney, July 23, 1821 - January 3, 1879, buried in Berry Cemetery in Angelina County, Texas with his wife Rhoda Ann Brookshire was a son of the above. Roland McKinney 1824 - 1878, also a son of James and Delia, married Martha Blythe Brookshire and they were living in Angelina County, Texas in the 1860 Census with their children.

Rhoda Ann Brookshire, Martha Ann Brookshire and Jessie Wright Brookshire are children of Mannering and Sarah Shelton Brookshire. Mannering is a son of James and Martha Wright Brookshire. Both Mannering and Sarah are buried in a lost cemetery in Angelina County, Texas.
Several descendants of the Berry,Brookshire and McKinney families live in the city of Lufkin and Angelina County, Texas.

Definintly, of Cherokee Indian Decent, This, Reuben, McK. And His wife Pulcherry ( Crabtree)McKinney, were both of Cherokee Blood, also on record in Limestone County,Alabama, With James and Deliliah McKinney, Reuben Listed along with their Kids
as an heir to James estate, also found in in court records.
(( Welcome to pass this on to anyone intrested ))

Update
Hope this will have some clues that might help some McKinney researchers
seems most I have read are looking for cues in the ,Collin County, McKinney,Texas.research , which pretty much covers the McKinney's that migrated west
but very hard to trace some of the family lines
All these in this following list of McKinneys / Meeks, are related to the early Texas bunch. that went to Texas
Some lived in Hempstead County, Arkansas, Old Washington, Where, Daniel Mck, His Mom, Mercy Blatchley, and wife, all died of a sickness in summer of 1825

By, Erbie Lee Meek

Reuben and Pulcherry ( Crabtree) McKinney
Was, My Dad, Lee Meeks, Grandparents
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

James, and Delilih Mckinney, of Limestone County, Alabama
Listed as Parents Of, Reuben McKinney b.1805, in Tenn
They were my Dad, Lee Monroe Meeks, great grandparents, By the way, I am 80 yrs of age,
at this writing,
May account for the big, years gap, as My Dad, b.1894, was next to the youngest of 12 kids, Who were Reuben, and Pulcherry ( Crabtree) McKinney's , Grandkids. By Their Youngest Girl. Sarah Ann (McKinney) Meeks. My Grandmother.

Very well documented, You can find records at, Montgomery County, Arkansas, Also at Limestone County Alabama, to bear this out, Also, My grandparents, William Wesley Meeks, and Sarah Ann (Mckinney ) Meeks, are listed as heirs of James and Deliliah McKinney
in some court action in Limestone County,Alabama

Reuben and Pulcherry , on record Montgomery Co. as Rasing, their oldest, Daughter, Mary's Kids. As Marys Husband, Issac Southerland, died of a sickness in a Hospital while serving in the Civil War. Hospital I believe was in KY.
and I can not find what happened to Mary,

Here is the First generation , in Montgomery County, Arkansas,
Census Records, also books in the Library, at Mt.Ida, Arkansas
Here is a rundown, ( Decendants of these are now living all over the USA.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reuben McKinney, and Pulcherry ( Crabtree) McKinney, came to Montgomery County Arkansas. in 1830's ,from Tennessee, VIA, Missouri ,KY,TN, where the Ferryboat crossed the Mississippi River. at least a couple of their Kids was born in Missouri,
Some moved on to Fannin , and Collin Countys in Texas after growing up

Reuben listed in will of ,James, and Delilah McKinney, of Limestone County Alabama, as an heir, with their other Kids, listed as ,b in Tenn. 1805.
William Wesley Meeks, and wife Sarah Ann (Mckinney ) Meeks, can be found in court documents there, as heirs , of James & Deliliah McKinney some kind of court settlement.

By checking early census records, marriage records.etc. Reuben was born 1805, in Tenn., and Pulcherry was born, 1815, in Tenn. the folks said Pulcherry was a Cherokee Girl, also Reuben was of Cherokee blood. The Cherokee features still stand out in the descendants to this day, ( Legend has it, Reuben was an only child of, James Collin McKinney,or one of His Boys, and a Cherokee Girl named Blue Bird, who died shortly after Reuben, was born,1805 ))))
((( speculation,,,James and Deliliah McKinney of Limestone County Alabama, raised Reuben with their Kids.)))
Ten of Reuben and Pulcherry's Kids have been identified through census records, and the family, here in Montgomery County,AR,
(1) They Are, Mary, b.1834
(2) Napoleon Bonaparte, b, 1836
(3) Elizabeth, b. 1840
(4) William, b. 1842
(5) Nancy, b.1843
(6) Johnny b. 1845
(7) George b.1847
(8) Reuben, jr. b. 1850
(9) Samuel, b.1853
(10) Sarah Ann, b.1854-- Sarah, was my grandma, My Dad Lee Meeks, Mom
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Mary, married Isaac Southerland, about 1850's
Issac died in a hospital I think in KY, while serving in Civil War, Mary disappeared from records. no trace of Mary found,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(2) Napolien Bonapart McK. ( Uncle Boney ) was killed in a train wreck, near Chattanoogh, Tennesses, on their way home when The Civil War ended, His Brother, William, was with Him, also an Old Doctor from Montgomery County,AR. who stated He attended both Boys, in a document when William applied for a pension from the injury He sustained in the Train wreck. The train wreck was the result of a bridge collapsing,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

William married, Martha Cockburn, March 20 -1867
Nancy married , W.T. Fulton. July-23-1878. Records indicate , Nancy was previously married to a man named, : Hill :
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(6) Johnny married , Cisily Meeks, ( sister of Sarah Ann's Husband , William Wesley Meeks)
A Company of Confederate Cavalry, Came to Grandpa Reubens Farm, during the Civil War,
(6) Johnny was in His Teen Years, The Cavalry camped out at Reubens Farm, Butchered one of Reubens Steers, and cooked it in The Old Round bottom wash pot, when they left traveling west, they took Johnny with them, as a Camp Boy, I think Johnny's Bro. Inlaw, Issac Southerland, Mary's Husband, was a member of this Cavalry Company, Unit.
Probably why Johnny went along, They came back to the farm a few months later, repeated the Camp out at Reubens Farm, Then traveled East to KY. gone another few months, Came back through, and this time they let Johnny stay home, ( Never knew why,) But Johnny promptly traveled to Little Rock,AR, 90 miles from here, swam the Arkansas River to North Little Rock, where the Union Army had already captured that area, Johnny Joined The Yankee 5th Cavalry there.as a Bugle Boy, This unit later traveled to, Montgomery, and Garland Countys, searching for ,Bush Whackers, Johnny led a charge down Central Ave, In Hot Springs, ( Also on record ) and captured a bunch of Bush Whacker gangsters,
Later years Johnny and Cisily, had a family here, Johnny turned into an alcoholic, and a renegade, He killed a man at a square dance, who threatened to kill johnny, A realitive of the man that Johnny killed, shot and Killed Johnny some time after that incident, At a Turkey shoot, at, Silver, Arkansas, also many wild stories about My g. Uncle Johnny McK.
Johmmy's eldest son, Coleman McKinney, took care of the family, and My g.Aunt Cisily , Colemans Mom, until she passed away in 1925, buried beside Johnny in the Old McKinney Cemetary, Montgomery County AR.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(8) Reuben, jr. married , Narcisis Cockburn, ( Sister of William's wife Martha Cockburn)
Samuel married, Francis West, on June 6-1882
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sarah Ann, married, William Wesley Meeks, on October 5-1869
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reuben and Pulcherry, along with many of their descendants,, Are Buried in
The McKinney Cemetery
Which is about seven miles from , Mt Ida, Arkansas, off Highway 27. north
On The Old South Fork Road, alongside the South Fork of the Ouachita River,
Where the McKinney Clan once owned over 2.000 acre of farm land.
Most of which is now under water of the , Man made Lake ,Ouachita
