James McKinney was originally from Surry Co NC and along with families like Ratliff Boon (father of J's wife Mary)
they moved to SC in the late 1780s or early 90s. James received a land grant dated 1794 from Gov of SC (I have copy) and he probably was in the Am Rev. though still trying to prove that. Recently found probable evidence of his being involved in NC and there is also a JMcK in one SC list. His will I have a copy of, and he is the father of most of the men and women in your list -- including my g-g-grandfather John McKinney who is buried at McKinney Chapel in Pickens CO, SC (John was born in 1780 and died 1870).I'm current preoccupied with meeting some Texas Gravelys in SC from my home in CO next weekend and am absorbed in all that, but I will get back to you and be glad to send you copies of what I have about that line.My grandmother Hannah Elizabeth McKinney (her father was John's son Thomas Newton McKinney) married Alvin Willoughby Gravely. Apparently, still trying to document, the commissoners of SC, NC and GA met at James' homeplace in 1813 and settled boundary disputes. Will Gravely, Littleton, CO [email protected]
