William McKenney b. 1827 in OH married Esther Yarnell circa 1844 in Monroe Co. Ohio. Esther was born abt 1825 in PA, the daughter of Eli Yarnell, 1790-1856. Her mother is unknown.
Eli Yarnell was residing in 1840 in Enoch, Monroe, Ohio, two houses from an Eli Bartow, relative of Mary Bartow who married a Robert Eugene McKenney, and the household of a Robert McClunny who I believe is instead a Robert McKenney who is a possible grandfather to William McKenney who married Esther.
Esther had at least one unknown sister.
By 1849 a number of the Bartows had migrated to Van Buren County and Jasper County, Iowa, as had Robert Eugene McKenney (for a time). William McKenney and his wife Esther, and Eli Yarnell are found listed in the 1849 Van Buren, Iowa census.
In 1850 they are in the Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census.

Eli Yarnell died in 1856 and is buried in the Bentonsport Cemetery.
William McKinney is in the 1862 Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census.
William and Esther are in the 1856 Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census living beside my ancestor, George W. McKenney (I believe they are probably brothers).

In 1860 William McKenney is listed twice in the census. The family is in Washington, Van Buren, Iowa

William and his son Eli are also in Village, Van Buren, Iowa not far from my George W. McKenney, and are among railroad workers.

William enlisted August 13 1862 in Company I, 19th IA infantry. He died at Prairie Grove, Washington, Arkansas on Dec 7 1862.
Though Esther is still living, several of William and Esther's children are listed in Jan 1867 in the Soldiers Orphans home at Davenport, Iowa.

I don't know what happened to their eldest daughter Hannah Jane McKenney, she isn't observed after 1860 and I've been unable to find a marriage for her in Van Buren.
Eli W. McKenney (1847 OH - 1946 CA) m. in 1865 in Van Buren Co. Iowa to Melissa Ann Edwards, b. 1846 in IA, daughter of Rev. John T. Edwards and Nancy Oney. They had Mattie 1865, Lottie abt 1868, George C. abt 1870, Charles E. abt 1876, Maud and Kate (unknown dates). Of these children, I only know that Lottie married, before 1888, a Gideon B. Glascock b. 1867 in Iowa.
Francis M. McKinney isn't observed after 1860. Neither is Luther B., who was in the orphanage.
In 1870 we find Esther (Yarnell) McKenney now living in Bentonsport, Van Buren, Iowa with her son William and daughter Viola.

Esther Anna, who had been in the orphanage, is not listed with the family. In 1876 she marries, in Van Buren, Iowa, to Josephus Barr, son of James W. Barr (b. 1851 in OH) and Mary Ann Gardener. In 1876 they have daughter Carrie A. who will marry a Hall who was born in KS and have daughter Hazel I. Hall in 1897. They're in the 1880 Washington, Van Buren Iowa census, 1885 Bentonsport, Van Buren, Iowa state census, and 1900 Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census.
William S. and Viola are still observed with Esther (Yarnell) McKenney in the 1880 Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census.

Esther (Yarnell) McKenney dies in 1891 in Iowa and is buried in the Bentonsport Cemetery.
William S. McKenney marries, before 1884, a Hettie (Jenetta) M., b. March 1862 in Missouri. Last name is unknown. Their children are John b. 1884, Dairy b. 1887 and Elsie b. 1890. They are in the 1900 Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census. In 1910 and 1920, William S. and Jenetta are observed in the Washington, Van Buren, Iowa census.
