Dear Barlow,

Perhaps it would be helpful for you to get a copy of "Some Descendants of Mordecai McKinney" by Geral McKinney Petty and Eulah McKinney Ridgeway, Published in 1953, for your searches since some of his clan centered in McKinney, KY, before expanding into other areas of KY, IN, MO, and TX.

I was in McKinney, KY, several years ago and copied the book at the Harvey Help Memorial Library, Stanford, KY, 40484. The library number is 606-365-7513.

If you go to Stanford plan to visit McKinney and Hustonville where many McKinney relatives are buried. There is a nice restaurant in McKinney, the McKinney Depot Restaurant, Busy Bee Street, (606) 346-2222 owned by Fred and Joyce Martin.

The original fort and cemetery are on property owned by Harold and Lida Cheney. If you ask nicely they may let you wander their property. The Cheney's also owned lived in the Burton McKinney mansion which burned.

Also, go out of town on hwy 198 a few miles to find a home owned by Becky McKinney (husband J.W. McKinney was an 8th gen. McKinney owner) who lives on the original Archibald McKinney Revolutionary War land grant.

Becky has willed portions of the farm to her son and grandson so the property will be owned for 10 generations in their McKinney family.

The folks at the library and in McKinney were very helpful.

Good luck hunting.

My gggg-grandfather, William VanHook McKinney came from McKinney to southeast Clinton County in Indiana in the early 1830's so I have a pretty strong interest in the area and intend to go back to do more family research and for my writing. My paternal grandmother was a McKinney.

My first book, "The Americans," is 60% about McKinney characters. My second collection of short stories, "The Americans II," is finished but not yet published and contains McKinney characters.

You can find out about my book at www.amazon.com or http://donaldlafon.blogspot.com.
