In the previous message I had said that the 1910 census reported that Ellen McKinney (wife of John Luther) said she had no children. However, I was just looking at the 1900 census and find this enumeration in Lynchburg City, Virginia: J.L. McKinney / head / b. Mar 1855 / 45 yo / m. 11 yrs / born VA and were his parents / he was a carpenter Ellen P McKinney / wife / b. June 1852 / 48 yo / m. 11 yrs. / born Arkansas / 3 children with 3 still living! John H. McKinney / son / b. Feb 1879 / 21 yo / married [!!] / b. VA Estelle E. McKinney / daughter / b. Jul 1881 / 18 yo / single / b. VA Louis M. McKinney / son / b. Jul 1884 / 15 yo / single / b. VA I wonder why Ellen reported in the 1910 census that she had no children! Do you know if their son, Louis, died also? There was clearly a lack of communication between the census taker and the family unless they had some reason for not telling the truth - and that seems unlikely. It is also interesting that John H. McKinney reported here that he was married but there is no evidence of a wife. Notify Administrator about this message?
