James McKinney in New York City

I am seeking information of any kind about Catherine and John Cavanagh who lived at 137 West 63rd Street, New York City, in 1918, and Catherine (possibly subsequent to John's death) at 6 Amsterdam Avenue, NYC, in 1942. My great uncle, James McKinney, a native of Co Antrim, Northern Ireland, lived with the Cavanaghs during these dates and quite possibly for some time afterwards. Born on 25 November 1884 (although he stated 1883 on draft registration documents in 1918 and 1942), he was a single man and had no close relatives in the USA. I do not believe he entered the States through normal channels and his name does not feature in the 1910, 1920 or 1930 censuses, despite the fact he worked for US Realty at 111 Broadway in 1918 and for Chubb and Son at 90 John Street, also NYC, in 1942, suggesting continuity of residence in the city. I wish to know what happened to him, when he died and where he is buried, and hopefully some of this information might come to light through contact with descendants of Catherine and John, or through McKinney researchers who may have come across his name and details.
