Artie,
I have information on Peter and Isham McKinney, but there is also a note of caution.I found this while researching my ancestor Mary Sineath.
"The Sineath Family and Affiliated Family Lineages," by William Rudolph Bauer, published 1970, R. L. Bryan Co., Columbia, South Carolina says that a daughter of John and Mary (Davis) Sineath married Peter McKinney. The 1850 census places Peter McKinney in the household of Mary (Sineath) Crosby, another daughter of John and Mary Sineath. The details below, except for the census information, are copied from the Bauer Book.
John Sineath was born about 1780, and died between 1821 and 1830, in Colleton County, South Carolina. He married Sarah Davis, a daughter of Ichabod and Telitha Davis, who was born 1780- 1784 in North Carolina and died 1831-1840. Census records and the will of William Barney Sineath confirm that John and Sarah had these children:[Bauer, page 8]
i.A daughter (name not given) who died before 1850
ii.Mary A., born March 24, 1808
iii. Peter, born 1810
iv.Priscilla, born Oct. 20, 1812;died Aug. 8, 1882 in Berrien Co., Georgia
v.Margaret, born 1818
vi.William Barney, born 1822
They also had several sons who died in infancy.
The unnamed Sineath daughter who died before 1850 married Peter McKinney (born about 1804 in South Carolina).Their children are:
i.John S., born April 11, 1829
ii.James W., born 1831
iii. Martha, married William W. Hancock;died Feb. 22, 1908
Priscilla Sineath was born Oct. 20, 1812 in South Carolina, and died Aug. 8, 1882 in Berrien Co., Georgia. She is buried at the Antioch Methodist Cemetery in Adel, Georgia. She married Isham McKinney, who was born in South Carolina in 1808.They moved to Georgia after 1840.These are their children:[Bauer, p. 17]
i.Mary, born 1838; married Alexander D. Patterson
ii.Sarah Ann, born 1840;married Mitchell Hires on March 5, 1865
iii.Martha Ann, born 1842; married John L. Ingram on June 10, 1858; had one known child John S.
iv.Ingram, born April 9, 1862 and died May 26, 1869
v.Lucy, born 1846;married Jet T. Wright on Feb. 23, 1860
vi.Amy Ann, born Nov. 27, 1847; married Jonathan H. Alderman on Aug. 2, 1862; died Oct. 5,1922
vii.Elizabeth, born 1850;married James M. Wright on Aug. 3, 1865
viii. Nancy, born 1853;married Bailus C. Hutchinson
The book doesn't say whether Peter and Isham McKinney are related.
Mary A. Sineath was born March 24, 1808 in South Carolina and died Nov. 15, 1875 in Georgia. She married Paul Crosby, Sr. who was born Jan. 13, 1804 in South Carolina and died Oct. 6, 1888 in Georgia.Paul and his family left Colleton County, South Carolina to settle in Georgia.
In the 1850 census for Lowndes County, Georgia, Peter McKiney (age 46) lives with Paul and Mary Crosby, and their family.McKinneys in the household are John (age 23), James (21) and Martha (14).All of the McKinneys were born in South Carolina. Also in the household is Elizabeth Burnett (age 65, born in South Carolina) -- I don't know her relationship to the others. At any rate, the McKinney information is consistent with what Bauer says.
Caution:The Bauer book doesn't always give sources, and it contains some specifics that differ from other published information. But there is reference to a will that names the children of John and (Sarah) Davis Sineath -- perhaps you could locate a record of it.
A question for you -- several Crosby descendants have been trying to determine when the Crosbys arrived in Georgia. We think its probably 1841 or 1842.Do you have a record that shows that Peter McKinney arrived in 1841?
Thnaks, Brian
