Hi Jody! Yes William McKinney did marry very young but that is not unusual for people who came from the areas of the country that my family came from. My family, (my McKinneys, Matlocks, Weddles, Blanscets, Pruetts, Kirkpatricks, Mundys, Stinsons, Kilgores, Willinghams, Wades), came from North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and Arkansas. Most of them were "mountain" people from the Blue Ridge mountains and the Ozark mountains of Arkansas.
100 - 200 years ago people from these areas had much different customs than most people do today. They very often married as teenagers. 100 years ago a woman from these areas was considered to be an "old maid" if she was over 18 years old and still not married. Many people in my family were teenagers when they married. My maternal grandparents were only 14 and 15 years old when they married and my mother was born just nine months later! On my father's side, my paternal grandmother was only 14 when she married, too. So teenage marriages are not at all unusual for my family.
You asked if Susannah and Burnice Newton McKinney were twins. I really don't know. I need to check into that. I didn't even know about Burnice Newton until last week. My information about William McKinney comes from files that I found online. I need to email the person who put that information online and ask about their sources. I just haven't had a chance to do that yet. I need to ask about Biddy McKinney, too. I intend to do that soon.
Well Jody I have to go for now. I'll talk to you later. Have a nice evening.
