Mrs. McKinney ~ daughter of Thomas Brown

THOMAS BROWN, son of JOHN and MARGARET BROWN, was born in Wigtown Shire, Scotland, September 22, l826, and died at Garden Grove, Iowa, July 23, l90l, being in his 75th year.
MR. and MRS. BROWN came to the United States immediately after their marriage, in l850, and lived for a number of years in McHenry County, Illinois. They removed to Garden Grove, Iowa, in l869, and for the past 32 years have been residents of this neighborhood. He, in company with his wife and daughter, MARGARET, paid a visit to his native home in Scotland in l885 and spent a few weeks very pleasantly among old friends there.
MRS. BROWN preceded him to the better land beyond three years ago, and he has been in rather poor health ever since. He was fairly well educated and was a man of more than ordinary intelligence. He was kind and ready to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
He leaves a family of six children to mourn their loss, namely: MRS. MCKINNEY, (unfortunately at present on a visit to New York) MARGARET and MARY at home, JOHN, also in New York, and JAMES and THOMAS, all having good comfortable homes in or near Garden Grove.
MR. and MRS. BROWN were both charter members of Pleasant Ridge Grange, P.of H., and were active members of that Order as long as it existed here.
