A land claim was made in 1803 in St. Charles County. However, when the Louisana Purchase was made, all claims had to be defended.Of course, it was to the government's advantage to deny the claims so the land could be sold again.Consequently, many of the previous claims were denied--including the McKinney one.We think (no definite proof--only family stories) they were hunters and trappers, following the Missouri River, and the men probably moved around considerably before settling their families in Cole County. The last record in Campbell County that we could find indicated a land sale--I think in 1816 (I didn't look this up), but we have records of them in Cole County before that.It is possible the land sold after they left there.
Have you found any other records about the Henry who died in 1834?
