McKenney in Kansas
Anyone know of McKenneys in Kansas that might be connected to mine?
My gg-grandparents, Jonathan McKenney and Louisa Butt, lived in Coffey County, Kansas during the Civil War. I have been able to trace all of their children twelve (12!) for the next generation except for two of them:
Sarah McKenney b. 1850 in Washington County, Arkansas. She was enumerated with them in the 1865 Kansas State Ag Census in Coffey County, but when the family moved to Jackson County, Missouri a few years later, she was not with them. A cousin recently sent information that Sarah McKenney was still in Coffey County for the 1875 Kansas State Census. I would really like to find out what happened to her -- did she marry? She did she live out her life in Kansas or did she migrate west with her siblings?
The other 'child' that I have not been able to find is Howell McKenney who was born 8 Feb 1846 in Washington County, Arkansas. I know his birthdate because he was a twin of Mary Emily McKenney who married John Smith and who went to Colorado. Howell was in the Civil War and was discharged along with his brother, Jonathan Wilson McKenney, in 1865. I have no idea what happened to Howell after his discharge.
Since all of the children of Jonathan and Louisa (Butt) McKenney had middle names, I am assuming that Howell did also. But I have no idea what it might have been. He could have started using his middle name after the War. [???]
