My great-great grandfather was a James McKinnell of Kirkinner in Wigtonshire Scotland. He was born, I am guessing in the 1790s, married to a Janet Hawthorne, and died in Scotland in about 1862.
His son, my great-grandfather, was Peter McKinnell, who was born in about 1826, married a Jessie McDowell of Newton Stewart parish, and emigrated to the United States in 1855, settling near Elgin, Illinois, west of CHICAGO (I had WIsconsin in my first message).Among his children was a son, my grandfather, James Charles McKinnell. My grandfather had a son, James Charles McKinnell II.I am my father's firstborn son James McKinnell III, and I have a son James Charles McKinnell IV.But he is the end of this dynasty, because none of my children has a child names James Charles.
Another son of great-great grandpa James, James McKinnell, emigrated to Australia, and I am in touch with one of his descendents in Tasmania, a Catherine Curran (her email address is [email protected]).I do not have at hand the name of his wife, but I assume that he also would have been born in the 1820's.
As you can see this family really likes the name James.
I know I haven't been much help to you, but I appreciate your inquiry.James McKinnell
