Thanks for your returned "information". It looks like we might be distance cousins. I have the complete NARA records for John Hunter's Rev. War information, but I do not have a copy of John McKinley's Will. Can you tell me how I can get a copy of that? I think there must be more McKinleys out there than we first expected, when I saw that letter from William to his Aunt Martha and Uncle John Hunter. It is a bit confusing, I admit.
Sometimes you see James McKinley being listed as a cousin and other times as an uncle (same person). There are also church records concerning an Oliver and Elizabeth McKinley down in Washington, Ky. (ardent spirits were mentioned). Did you know that James McKinley (in Kentucky)is also told about in the famous "Draper Papers" along side Simon Kenton?
I have not seen James listed as a brother to Martha and Elizabeth,(otherwise in his will, he would have stated that John Hunter was his brother-in-law) but I have seen a "William". Another researcher, states that there were four girls and one boy born to John and Grizzelle McKinley (1732). Martha, Elizabeth, Grizzelle, Mary and William.
If you have Elizabeth's childrens' names,(and birthdates) would you share them with me? And I can do the same for Martha's family.
As for Grizzle Bratton (1732), I don't have really anything, except she may have had a male relative that went with Lewis and Clark on their expedition to the Pacific Ocean.
Having the family Bible for your William Harrison McKinley, is a real treasure, hold on tight to it. You may be able to use it as "proof" toward a Revolutionary War patriot, which would be John McKinley (1732). He took the oath of allegience and therefore qualifies as a patriot. (DAR & SAR).
