My McKillops were from Corrie / Sannox area of Arran and also came to Quebec on the Caledonia....There were several McKillop families on that ship but I do not know how they are related.
My ancestors Daniel (or Donald) McKillop and Mary Hamilton had at least one son named John McKillop who married Mary Crawford (daughter of William and Katherine Shaw Crawford and sister of Katherine Crawford who married Duncan MacMillan and are ancestors of Prime Minister Harold MacMillan of England).
John McKillop died on Arran but his widow Mary and their children came in 1829 to Meganic County, Quebec, when Lord Hamilton wanted to enlargen his deer park and in so doing uprooted the many tenant farmers, some of which were my McKillop ancestors.
Upon reaching Canada, Mary died during the winter of 1830. Among her sons were Peter, Donald, Malcolm, John and Alexander. Son Donald married Ann Hamilton (daughter of Ronald Hamilton & Mary Stewart of Arran). Donald died from cancer in the 1840s in Megantic County. Ann went west with son William to Saskatchewan where she died about 1883. Another son, Peter, settled in St. Albans, Vermont, and there was a son John and several daughters. A son named Ronald married in Quebec to Bessie Sophia Goodhue and moved to New York, and then west to Oregon and California. His son William is my grandfather, who resided most his life in Hawaii.
