William McKillip was born in Ireland around 1818. I'm not sure when he immigrated but he was in Kenosha Wisconsin by the 1860 census and owned a grocery store. He was married to Bridget, also from Ireland, who was born around 1824. I have found him and his store in the 1858 and 1861 Kenosha directories (interstingly, he is listed as "William McKilliss" in the 1861 directory ... must have something to do with the way "p"s were written then). He is not listed in the 1875 directory so I believe he had either died by then or had moved to Chicago. Bridget is listed in the 1880 Cook County census as a widowed head-of-household. Living with her were her sons John (born abt. 1855 in WI), William (born abt. 1859 in WI) and Thomas (born abt. 1862 in WI). Also living with her were William English and Mary Duffy. I believe Mary may be related to Bridget or William. In the 1870 census, Thomas McKillip (then only 8) was living with Mary in Kenosha. Somehow the McKillip's, the Duffy's and the English's are connected. They all lived near each other in Kenosha and then ended up living together in Chicago. Best bet is that Bridget's maiden name was English and that Edward, Mary and Bridget were all siblings. I'm guessing that the McKillip's were in Chicago in 1870 but I haven't been able to find them yet. I haven't had the time to scan the 1870 census images yet and haven't found them in the Soundex. However, William's son Dennis' death certificate seems to say that he moved to the state of Illinois in 1875. All William and Bridget's children are ... 1. Susan McKillip, b.
