The following are excepted from an article by Dale H. McKibben sent to me by my Grandomther Glennie Emogene Costin McKibben (William Cecil McKibben) McKibben / Gillon - Founding Families of Yalobusha CO, MS Soon after the opening of the Choctaw Cession lands two friends John A McKibben and Hugh Gillon, SR org. of Coddle Creek NC headed to MS and settled in the Yalobusha Area of Mississippi. Dated cannot be pinpointed but it was between 1840 and 1845. Pre Migration Records: John A Mckibben born in 1800 poss 1801 Alick McKibben m. Agness Wiley Mecklenburg Co NC (1796) Possibly John A. Mckibben;s parented but not proven John A married Mary Duest on Jan 31 1825 then Sarah Hannigan on Sept 27 1827 (no one knows what happened to Mary it appears that Mary was the mother of 1st 2 children and Sarah the rest (census says six but only 5 are accounted for) Nancy A Mckibben married David L parrish on Sept 16 1842, Nancy is the daughter of John A and Mary but stayed in NC The two had children who inter married and this is the result Migration to Mississippi: 1950 Census reports the following Name Sex Age OCC B/Place John A M 50 Farmer NC James Earl M 17 NC Mary Ann F 15 NC Hezekiah E M 13 NC Martha J F 11 NC No wife was mentioned James Earl was handicapped and had a short life span He had a son William Adam then 22 not on census record in 1860 Same persons were on Census except James Earl William Adam had Married Sarah Gillon and had 3 sons 1870 Census only John A, Mary Ann and Martha remained in Household Hezekiah had married and was living in Grenada Co due to the formation of new County by 1880 thefamily had dissapeared and Hezekiah lived in Calhoun County with wife 2 sons and 2 daughters William Adam lived in Yalabousha Co with wife (Sarah Gillon) near coffeeville.( Fought in Civil War) Alex Harvey Gillon (born SC)is the eldest son of Hugh and Jemima Gillon and Married Elizabeth McKibben both (NC) had an infant Daughter that died ( Elizabeth died sometime during Civil War) After the Civil war the McKibbens moved ino calhoun County and the Gillons stayed in Yalabusha and Grenada counties After the Civil War county records not the several of the McKibben's and Gillon's had the notation GTT by thier names GTT means Gone to Texas (which meant either Texas or anywhere west of the Mississippi River)however : William Adam McKibben and Sarah Gillon McKibben remained in Calhoun county and had 9 children all boys 7 of whom erached adulthood and 6 of whom fathered children bearing the surname McKibben ionly one of these children went GTT so even though I only have the records of 2 of these children we re suer thatthe are more decendants in the North MS area; The 2 decendants of William Adam Mckibben and Sarah Gillon McKibben are as follows: John Franklin McKibben (1854-1923) m. Betty Ann Synder ( 1853 - 1938) Childen: Sallie McK Stribling (1873- 1950) Ophelia McK Stribling (1875 -1957) Charlie McK (1876-1957) William Henry McKibben (1878-1968) one year before my birth ( I am listing William Henry's children because they are my diect anscestors, anyone wishing to know the rest of the grandchildren of John Franklin and Betty can conact me Wm Henry Married Lovey Lee Morris McKibben his children were: Raymond McK Leroy McK Russell McK Jack McK Wm Cecil McK (my grandfather WW II vet) Cleo McK Box Etoil McK Milton John Franklin and Betty's children continued: Minnie McK Turner (1879-1940) Mattie Mck Williams (1881-1971) Luther McK (1855-1970) Danna McK (male) (1888-1945) Lois McK Vanlandingham (1889-1976) I am also naming her children because it was a asked aboutin a message posted on this site; Wesley vanlandingham Forrest Vanlandingham Eddie Lee Vanlandingham Eula KcK (1891-1943) Ellard McK (1896-1922) end Franklin and Betty other son of Willaim Adam and Sarah was James Alexander McKibben (1858-1942) m.
