I'm quite excited to find the surname ESTES associated with your John McKERNAN.
Have you run across the Tharp R. ESTES who married Jane DICKSON (dau. of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON) of Dickson Co. TN? Just like John McKERNAN, Tharp only appears in Dickson Co. records in regards to the estate of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON suggesting to me that Tharp lived in another county also.
There are probably "5" Hugh DICKSON's living in Dickson County, TN at about the same time (one was a son of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON). One Hugh DICKSON (s/o Joseph DICKSON) is said to have married "Hannah HICKS" but further research has brought me to the conclusion that the information is either erroneous or Hannah HICKS was assigned to the wrong Hugh DICKSON. Maybe she married Raccoon Creek John DICKSON's son, Hugh.
Then there is the Benjamin CUMMINS who also appears in the estate records but not in other Dickson Co. records. I've found "one" reference that "may" place him in Gibson Co. which is adjacent to Carrol County.
The bottom line is that I think the DICKSON family of Dickson Co. TN and your McKERNAN and ESTES lines are probably closely associated in some way. Perhaps there is an associated HICKS line as well. The BRIDGERS line is totally new to me.
I'm wondering if we might find a family connection back in Jefferson or Greene Counties in TN between about 1788 & about 1804?
May I suggest we go to email. If you would like my recordings of the estate sale of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON or the entries involving John McKERNAN and Tharp R. ESTES found in the Dickson County Court minutes I can either send them to you as "Word" attachments or as hard copies via snail mail. They are fairly long and the references to McKERNAN and ESTES are brief but you might find them of interest.
Again, I live in Houston co. TN (formed from Dickson Co. in 1871) and within a couple of miles of where Raccoon Creek John DICKSON lived. I believe Raccoon Creek John DICKSON is the brother of my wife's ancestor, Dry Branch Hugh DICKSON both of whom lived on Yellow Creek. We currently live on the Dry Branch property.
