According to notes by my Grandfather (who was born in 1863), John McKernan was a native of Ireland and was an attorney in Coffeeville, Yalobusha County, Mississippi.
Prior to the move to Yalobusha County, John McKernan was enumerated in Carroll County, Tennessee, in 1830. He died in 1839 in Coffeeville and his will is recorded in Book A, Coffeeville, Yalobusha County, Miss.
John McKernan was married to Harriet M. Estes, the daughter of Samuel Estes, Jr. and Martha W. Gee. Harriet is said to have been born in Hickman County, Tennessee. She was the sister of Susan Hicks Estes who married my great-great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Nicholson Bridgers.
