I have been trying to find the parentage of Mary Margaret McKiearnan etc. (so many different spellings). She was born 20 Nov 1838 in Union Co., Ky. married Robert R. Coomes in Knox Co.,Il. in 1858. He was killed in the Civil War and then she married James Hamilton O'Nan in Knox Co., Il. in 1866. Mary Margaret was orphaned at about 6 years of age. She was raised by her uncle Joseph and his wife Julia A. Smith McKiearnan. The McKernan family seemed to have started in Maryland, then Virginia, Kentucky and Illinis. Several families seemed to have moved together including McKernan, Hagan, O'Nan, Smith, Bowels and more.
I have found the parentage of Joseph with siblings but so far have not been able to figure out which of his brothers was the father of Mary Margaret.
Mary Margaret McKiearnan and James Hamilton O'Nan were the 2nd great-grandparents of my husband.
Any help would be appreciated.
