Definitive pronunciation!

Hello all.

It appears people are wondering about the correct pronunciation of the surname McKeown. Well, my name is Tim McKeown and I'm sitting at my computer in Armagh, so I should know!
OK, here goes... (Typing how to pronounce a name is very difficult, as I'm sure you know, but I'll try me best!)

The first part of the name, the "Mc" and the "K" sounds kind of melt into one sound - "mick", which ryhmes with "lick" but is slightly shorter. (For any linguists amongst you, the vowel sound is best described as a "schwa"!)

Then, the second part of the surname, I suppose the "eown" part, is pronounced "yone", rhyming with "lone", so the whole pronunciation could be written as "mick yone".

Note the surname has only 2 syllables, not three. I understand how and why people have trouble with the McKeown surname, as having lived in Cambridge, England, for 4 years I got called almost every variation of the pronunciation of McKeown you could imagine, except for the correct one!

If you have any comment then please post them on the forum!!
