Hello Susan, I don't know if our McKenzie ancestors would be in any way related, but I am intrigued by your story.
I was looking for information on two brothers who went to Melbourne, Australia in 1849, names Lewis & James McKenzie.
They were the 2 eldest sons of John McKenzie & Margaret McKenzie m.s. Coutts, and they sailed from Aberdeen to Melbourne. I'm still trying to find them, the rest of their family joined them the following year.
If there's anything at all that you can add to the information about John & James McKenzie who went to Australia in 1807, I will try to see if I can make any connections.I have a good deal of information on the McKenzies/MacKenzies of both Aberdeenshire, and Forfarshire.Mine were Catholic, and yours must have been as well, if involved in the Jacobite rebellion. If you have any "clues" at all that I can go on, I'lll try to help.
Possibly the names of John's children? If John (Jr) McKenzie was born abt 1783 in Sligo, do you have any idea if he was the eldest child, or where he fit in?That could help to figure the approximate dates of birth for John (Sr) and James in Scotland.
It's also very interesting for me to learn that they were living in the Wicklow Mountains, although likely no relevance whatsoever. However, I also have Pluck ancestry, and they lived in County Wicklow.I believe they were likely involved to some extent at least in the Irish Rebellion, as they had been in the Dublin City area, and relocated in the late 1700s to County Wicklow. As I mentioned, this is likely of no relevance whatsoever, but it's what "caught my eye" as I was searching for anything on Lewis & James McKenzie.
If you want to follow through here, I can't promise, but will try to find information for you, either in Scotland,or Ireland, or possibly both places.
Regards,
Jane (Canada)
