I purchased the subject undated studio portraits of an elderly couple at an antiques store in Fremont (Niles District), CA.
The photo of the man is identified on the back:
"Olive Temple
Robert McKenzie Council Bluff.
Wm McKenzie's (Grandma's father) Brother"
The photo of the woman is identified on the back:
"Fanny McKenzie
Robert McKenzie's wife
lived in Council Bluffs."
I found this couple listed in the 1900 and 1910 Census data for Garner Township, Pottawattamie Co., IA. A photo of their headstone at the Walnut Hill Cemetery (Section 12, Lot 281), Pottawattamie Co., IA, is available for viewing online courtesy of the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project.
Robert McKenzie was born 15 Dec 1840 in Louisons Brook, N.B., Canada, and died 2 Aug 1918. Robert immigrated in 1867. Around 1870, he married Fanny Richner, who was born Oct 1844 (per headstone) in Ruppersville, Afgaus, Switzerland, and died 29 Aug 1925. Fanny immigrated in 1852. Fanny gave birth to one child, name unknown. Robert worked as a gardener and for a fruit farm. I found Fanny listed in the 1920 Census data for Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., IA, shown as widow R. McKenzie, residing at 23 E. Washington Ave. with her divorced niece Ella Evans, who was born about 1861 in MI and was employed as a private family seamstress.
