My g-g gfather Alexander M (Manley) McKenzie (b. 1816 Scotland)immigrated with his wife, Mary (b. 1823 England)in 1848 into NYC from Liverpool. They show up in 1850 census in Detroit. In 1860 the are in Amboy, Illinois with 3 sons...William Manley (age 10,b. in Mich.), Alexander,(age 6, born in Ohio) and James (age 2, born in Mich). Son William married Sarah Anna Garner (had 4 traceable children before 1900)and died in Texas in 1915. Then he and his ancestors promptly fell off the edge of the earth. If anyone in this cast of characters looks familiar, I'd like to hear from you.
