If you do not already know Terri who started this thread (see message #623) then you should get in touch with her. You share the same grandparents.
I have found Ellen Kenonen (and other spellings) in the census along with her family. Her father, Emil, was b. ca 1890 in South Dakota - both his parents were from Finland. Her mother, Helen, was b. 1893 in Finland. Interestingly all of the children of Emil and Helen had given names that began with the letter 'E'.
In 1920 the family was in Florence, Hamlin County, South Dakota. In 1930 they were in Emmons County, North Dakota. Kintyre (where your father was born) is in Emmons County.
I can find no evidence of Lawrence Achilles McKenney who was b. 1903 and who you suggest must have married Ellen about 1930 or soon after. It would seem that he should be living nearby.
