Do you know when or where Lawrence McKenney and his wife, Ellen Kinnunen, were married? If you don't know that, can you make a guess by knowing the birth year and place of their oldest child?
SSDI shows this for your grandparents:
Lawrence Ach [Achilles?] McKenney b. 9 Jan 1903 (no place given); d. 3 Feb 1974 in Multnomah County, Oregon. His SS# was 498-03-5044.
Ellen L. McKenney b. 12 Feb 1912 (no place shown); d. 12 Feb 2003 in Gresham, Multnomah County, Oregon. Her SS# was 487-26-2058.
Both Social Security numbers were issued in Missouri. You can write for their social security applications. These forms give an awful lot of valuable information and should tell you where Lawrence was born and who his father was. It is rather expensive and it takes a long time to get the applications after ordering them.
You might also see if there are any Multnomah County newspapers online. See if there is an obit for Lawrence. You have an exact date for this death so it shouldn't be too difficult. If not online, you could visit or write to the local genealogy library - they likely have obits in their files.
