On 6 Nov 1819 Eli McKenney wrote his will in Sumter District in South Carolina. He named only his brother, William E. McKiney/McKeney/McKinney (spelled all three ways in the document!) and his mother, Mary Singletary. . . . . no wife and no children. The will was recorded in Feb 1821 presumably soon after his death. Eli McKenney did not appear in the 1820 census (that I can find) in South Carolina. William McK*nneys are too numerous to know if one of them would have been Eli’s brother; but one in Williamsburg, SC, was enumerated with one male <10 yo, himself at 25-44 yo and a wife/woman the same age. Mary Singletary was enumerated in Bladen County, North Carolina as being over 45 yo (and no one else in the household except for slaves). There is no way of knowing if this was Eli’s mother. Can anyone place this family in the greater scheme of things? Notify Administrator about this message?
