Jesse:

James McKenney and his wife, Mary Beatie, did have a son named George. As you know from my earlier post (that you replied to) there was some confusion about George who m. Rebecca Shelton and George who m. Lucinda Davis. The Butler County people seem to believe that this was the same George who married twice. I have believed (and you confirmed) that these were two Georges.

One was the son of James and Mary (above). The other was the son of John McKenney and Mary Wiseman. James and John were brothers from Harrison County, Virginia (WV) who settled first in the region of Jefferson County, Kentucky. James and his sons later settled in Butler county, Kentucky where both Georges married. The Georges would have been first cousins.

There have now been four living descendants of this particular McKenney clan (three from James) who have particpated in the McK*nney yDNA study. So there is a yDNA signature for us. If you have any doubts about your relationship to this family, you could also participate.

A match would certainly prove the relationship since you wouldn't match unless you were related. (The yDNA is passed from father to son nearly unchanged for hundreds of years. So all McKenney males descended from a common ancestor will have the same yDNA pattern - assuming no adoptions or illegitimate births to interrupt the y-pattern).

I will be happy to send you some of my research notes on this family (especially the two Georges!) if you like.
