Friends After He Is Dead
Andrew FAGAN, a poor fellow without a home, has existed for years in a sickly condition, spending most of his time in a hospital and the rest of his life sleeping in a shed in tho marble-cutting yard of McKENNA Brothers, on Meeker avenue, near Calvary Cemetery. Wednesday morning he was found dead in the shed. The elder of the McKenna Brothers ordered Under taker John GLENNAN to take charge of the body, and that gentleman received permission from Coroner HESSE to remove it to his establishment at No. 20 North Henry street. McKenna's brother, George, one of the firm, objected to this arrangement and went to the Coroner for a permit to take the body to Undertaker NEWMAN's establishment at 20 Meeker avenue, which was refused. George McKenna and his friends claim that they have a right to the body because they were the first to begin collecting subscriptions to bury it, while the elder McKenna (John) claims that he alone is entitled to pay this respect to his departed friend, because he was first to order an undertaker. Mr. Glennen says that he has the body and will keep it until it is placed in its last resting-place, while George McKenna says that if he has to shoot GLENNEN he will not let him bury the remains. It seems that although the unfortunate man lived almost friendless during his lifetime he has found in death two sets of friends who are willing to harm each other to show their respect to him.
