James Paul McKenna- Salford to South Africa
Our grandfather James Paul McKenna born 1875 in Salford Manchester UK was the youngest son of Joseph and Catherine McKenna ( maiden name- Gamble)
He said he was the youngest son of a large family that had come over to the UK from Ireland ( Dublin?) to work and that he was the only one to be born in the UK.
James Paul and his brother John went out to South Africa to fight in the Boer war where John died of dysentry and is buried in the Fort in Bloemfontein.
James Paul married an Australian Mary McFarlane and after her death he married Veda Leask. He lived in South Africa.
Around 1933-35 grandfather went to England to try and retire...lived in Vange Essex for a few years and then returned to South Africa where he died in 1959.
We think grandfather had a brother- Joseph McKenna with children named Cecilia and Joseph who lived at19 Gladesmore Rd Tottenham in London UK.
Does this story ring a bell???
